Designer Spotlight: Nanette Lepore

Since I've been posting this blog, I always keep my eyes (and camera!) open whenever I go shopping or flip through a magazine or catalogue. Looking back through some of my finds, I noticed alot of stuff from Nanette Lepore . So, I looked through her website and collections, and I LOVE what I see. It's somewhat of a cross between Chanel and Betsey Johnson, black/white and sophisticated but with enough lace and frills to keep the look young.
Shop Now @ Nanette Lepore
but first, some of her adorable stuff.

NL does nautical better than I've seen before, with pieces that are wearable .

I love this striped (if you look close!) jacket. It's young and fresh, especially with the oversized red buttons. And of course, cheetah! How did I not find this yesterday?

I saw this coat in Nordstrom, and let me tell you, it is even more fabulous in person. The pattern sparkles . And I just love this skirt! I think my mom passed on her weakness for black and white.

Yay shoes. Chunky heels without feeling like your Grandma's orthopedics, and funky patterns.

This is my favorite thing of hers that I've seen. It's so elegant and sophisticated!

RaWr

I've always had a soul-sucking (but in a good way) weakness for cheetah print.
With words like spunk, attitude, fierce and bold associated with animal prints, what could be better?
Here's my purr-worthy print picks.

(L.A.M.B $385 @ Nordstrom)
This coat from L.A.M.B is so fabulous! It's sophisticated and daring, plus it's got spunk. Love

(Betsey Johnson, $49, $211, $170, $110)
I could go on for hours about Betsey Johnson cheetah print stuff, but I decided to only pick four. (ha ha)
First, this cute little negligee. Actually, Victoria's Secret has the matching bras, panties, and robes in this pattern, they just weren't on the website. Cute stuff though. Then, the fabulous red dress. Very sexy, very summery. Light weight and adorable for those oh oh summer nights. (Sorry, i watched Grease on Thursday ;] ) Then these shoes, with the cheetah print hiding on the insides and the heels. Betsey tends to do this a lot, and it's just so delicious. I absolutly ADORE this jacket! The second it goes on sale at all I'm snatching it up, or if I ever have a bit of extra cash to burn. It's Betsey, it's pink, it's cheetah. Yum.

(Donald J Pliner $200/ Irregular Choice 55 pounds)
Two pairs of cute cheetah shoes! I really love shoes like these that are like hairy, and pumps with a tiny peep-toe. Ahhh...

(Diane von Furstenberg $275/ Marc by Marc Jacobs $368)
Why not add a zebra and a tiger to the mix? I want to wear the savananah (but not literally, that would be cruel).

And the bag that inspired this whole post? My new school bag (yes! I finally got one!) that came yesterday. I had to have them ship it to San Fran from the outlet near L.A. and then have my Dad hook up our fax machine, just to get them to ship it to my house, but it's here! And it is sooooooooooo worth it!

Stay Fierce!

I've Been Tagged

Yay! Finals are over, and I finally have a chance to post again! Now i just have to figure out how to make the pictures work again. Anyway, I thought I'd post the five things you don't know about me and then later this weekend (i promise this time! It's a three day weekend, so i really will) i'll figure out whats up with my blogger and post my new bag and stuff.

1) Meg Cabot is my favorite author ever. I started reading Princess Diaries in like 3rd grade, and now I read all of her books.

2) My best friend and I pass a notebook back and forth every day at school, just like The Notebook Girls (the book.?) When we grow up we're gonna publish it.

3) If it's the last thing I do, I'm going to attend FIT (fashion institute of technology) sometime in my life.

4) I was born in New York City, and I desperatly want to live there when I grow up. Fashion Avenue here I come.

5) I want Karl Lagerfeld's job.

does no one else have FINALS?

Apparently not. I realize that school schedules are different around the world, but I thought at least some of you would be going through the agony of studying around the same time as me? I've spent much of this week studying for next week's finals and the rest of my time watching Beauty and the Geek, American Idol, My Name Is Earl, and You're The One That I Want -es that were clogging up my DVR. I sat down today and decided to read all your blog posts from recently, and honestly just spent the past hour and a half reading what my Google Reader called '100+' posts, although I'm pretty sure it was more like 200. PLUS, I didn't even attempt to comment on any of them, or read Style Bubble. I barely read any of the entries either, I mostly just looked at pictures. Yikes. So if any of you did your absolutly best literary work or were extremly witty in your entries from the past week, tell me and I'll actually read them! And if anyone read Style Bubble this week and thinks I need to look at the post, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

All I will say about the Golden Globe are two things:
(Click on the names for pictures)

1) I absoluly love Reese Witherspoon, and she looked SO young and beautiful at the Golden Globes.

and
2) If Cameron Diaz's dress hadn't had that strap, it would have been fabulous.

(Apparently, I can't post pictures anymore! I'll get on fixing that and be back tomorrow with ACTUAL fashion posts!)

I know it's boring...

But the truth of the matter is I have to post my random thoughts first, and then I can gather up stuff for a cool awesome post! yay! Plus, it's amazing i'm even posting right now, since I managed to have NO time last week, but i already have time today? Soon I'm gonna be bogged down with studying for my first every FINAL which will be very stressful, but once I return, I promise I'll be back to my posting prime. Until then, please stick with me through the half-posts and the pictures of me in outfits...

"II like to picture Jesus in a tuxedo T-Shirt because it says I want to be formal, but I'm here to party." (Ricky Bobby)
Yup, that was my inspiration for this outfit, which I actually wore a long time ago, but whatever. Actually it's two outfits, one I wore out to lunch at the club, and one I wore out to the movies one afternoon. Yup, I got one of the Inspi(red) shirts! Yayyy!

Then these two pictures are actually the same outfit, but I just wore it twice (oops!) Once out to dinner with my cousins and the other today at school, with my new denim jacket! My mom and I went to the great mall yesterday and I got this jacket for 20 bucks! yay outlets!

Some random layering by MOI. I got out of the shower one day over break when I had been in my PJs all day (cuz' whats more fun than that?) and wanted to dress cute, so I paired these items together. I think it actually looks kinda cute, especially cuz i found a matching ribbon for my hair!

I saw these on Coutorture and just thought they were ridiculous and adorable at the same time! They're swarovski encrused pepper spray bottles! They are actually auctioning off some designed by celebrities, mostly the cast of My Name Is Earl (a show i LOVE! if you haven't seen it then you must tune into NBC 9 PM on thursdays!) and the money goes to the National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence. My favorite is the one by Jaime Pressley, who plays Joy.

It's Electric

Ah! I am so sorry that I haven't posted AT ALL this week. You guessed it, this was the week I went back to school! It was such a long week, and a lot of dramatic stuff happened, including me breaking up with my boyfriend, :). Anyway, I'm not busy now so I thought I'd post a two electronics that caught my eye during the week but I was too busy/lazy to post.

OMG this is so cute! I have always loved Sidekicks AND I have always loved Diane Von Furstenberg's lip-print-ed designs. Combined? It's too die for!

And of course, this week Apple introduced the iPhone. I am absolutly in LOVE with this phone! It's completly perfect, what more could you want? Personally, I'll wait until the second version comes out, because they'll work out the kinks, it will be less expensive, with more memory, AND they might start making them in colors. (like pink!) But this will be the ULTIMATE phone!

(PS- Sorry this was short, but I haven't had much time to think fashion this week. I have a three-day weekend though, so I'll try to spread a little love.)

It's Those Fabulous Gilmore Girls Oh How We Have Missed Them

I've been watching Gilmore Girls, well 'religiously' is how I've put it in the past (and it's true!), for about two years maybe (yeah I know, I'm a late Gilmore-bloomer, but I've made up for it with how much I love the show!) Well I came in about 5th season, if that gives you an idea.
Anyway, as much as I love this show, and even though I have heard Luke (Scott Patterson) mention that Lorelai (Lauren Graham (my all time hero)) wears 'crazy outfits all the time' (but usually with pants!), I never thought to actually pay attention much to said outfits. An 'ooh that's cute' here and a 'ommmg I'd so wear that' there and a 'why dont i have that!?' later, and eventually there are some adorable outfits that I'm not paying attention to! (Please excuse me. The show is so enjoyable I don't even need to focus on costume to enjoy it. Is that my fault?) But now I have gone through a screen-caps site and pulled out some stuff that I love, Just For You. (It's not just Lorelai/Lauren either! Rory (Alexis Bledel) has some cute stuff once she escapes from Chilton's uniforms!--gasp!)

Some FABulous dresses worn by Lorelai, and just because I can I'm going to name all these episodes, from left to right. (Lorelai's First Cotillion, Wedding Bell Blues, and... darn. Well she is standing in the Dragonfly for this picture so it's Season 4 last episode or later. Do I get points for that?)
An elegant, full length white dress (without being bridal!), this great blue dress and purple sparkly minijacket (which should not be worn together, but alone are quite quite cute) and a cute day dress for your inn-managing duties. Parfait! (which means perfect in French, not a layered dessert)

Lorelai's Tee-shirts! (The middle one is That's What You Get Folks, For Making Whopee)
I love how Lorelai has this fabulous tee collection that she incorporated into her outfits, so when she is at home she can be cozy, but when she is out and about, she looks mature enough that someone won't think 'God, that mother should dress her age' (Although no one ever thinks Lorelai is a mother anyway) I know she has thousands more good tees, but I am lazy, and stopped when I found three examples.

(The one where Old Man Twicum actually dies, dunno, and the one with Lane's Bachelorette party)
Just a few great Lorelai outfits! She layers so well! I do realize that Lorelai Gilmore is not actually dressing herself, she is being dressed by the costume department, but that would mean Lorelai Gilmore is not real, and if I have to admit that I'll cry. So I won't. Oh and in the picture on the right, that jacket is Juicy! One I posted a while ago. Haha, I've got the eye.

(Friday Night's All Right For Fighting, That's What You Get Folks For Making Whopee (?) and some unknown one in the Yale Daly News office)
Rory's college chic! (And because Paris (Liza Weil) has a cute outfit I didn't cut her out of the picture) Rory (or her character sniff sniff) has really grown into her mother's fashionable shoes. (I won't even point out that they share shoes, because it's obvious. oops) My favorite is her outfit on the far left. Which inspired this entire post. hehe.

Who can pull of work shirts like this adorable workaholic? No one.

I have brought together the two things I love, my fashion blog and Gilmore Girls.
Now I can die. (But I won't)

Here It Goes, Here It Goes, Here It Goes Again

I'm sure you've all seen this video. Ok go on the treadmills? (How cool is this by the way?) Anyway, when I saw this video the first thing I noticed was how well dressed the guys of Ok go are! They all look so chic in their pink, vests, and ties. So I decided to look a little further into the matter, and found that Ok go are usually dressed well! Examples:

(This pic looks like Mick Jagger! Agreed?)
Don't you just love it when guys dress well? Especially in bands. It can be hard to mold their style into your own though, just because of the fact they are guys. Here's a few of my ideas to make Ok go's look your own.

Step One: Blazers Why not try a cute blazer? Over a tee or even a shiny top, like these boys do. It's masculine-chic, but still girly, especially when in a cute color. (Juicy Couture actually has a cute red velvet one that I've seen twice, but for the life of me I can't find it online. Probably because it's on sale . Try Bloomingdale's or any Juicy store.)

Step Two: Shine & Stripe Tops Shiny tops, or stripes are great. Try a bright color of shine, something you wouldn't normally wear, i.e. shocking purple. Try a low cute or buttoned top when it comes to stripes. Oh and try a Michael Stars top, like the one in the top left corner. They all have glitter embedded in the fabric. And why not layer any of these under a wool-but-fab vest?

Step Three: Ties Ties aren't just for the guys anymore! Add one to any layer to add a level of style or professionalism. Want one different than the one's in your Dad's closet? Try a metallic or a designer name one, like this Pucci one, left.

Step Four: Menswear Don't be afraid to venture off into the other side of the store! Try a mens top, it might be a bit big on you, but with your tight little jeans and jewlery, you can glam it up! Or go the other way; steal one of your little brother's tees that will fit you nice and snug. Some guys' stuff is actually cute, and a lot of designer brands make mens lines. (like Dior homme, which Mary Kate and Ashley wear all the time!)

Step Five: Button-Down Shirts Not quite ready to branch off into guy's clothes? Fine! Why not try out one of those striped shirts you've seen a million times at HCO or A&F? This one from Abercrombie and Fitch is totally the cutest one I've seen yet. It's women's wear, but it's on the edge enough to make a statement.

Steps Six and Seven: Men's Accessories and Pink You know you've seen dozens of these type of socks before when you sort socks when doing laundry. How cute would a pair be sticking out of your converse when your are wearing a mini skirt? (Can you tell that I want to raid my Dad's closet? I just think I could make some of his stuff cute!) High socks are popular anyway, so put your own spin on them--male. And, since the lead singer wore pink pants, I had to include these Juicy velour ones. That way you can be cozy while still being chic. Pair them with a vest or tie? Who's Your Daddy?

A Tad Scary?

I was flipping through fashion156 the other day and I came across this picture:

I found this scary. This model has actually gotten so thin that she has no breasts. Her rips pop through her skin and she has no body fat.
Once you get this thin, I don't think you're even attractive anymore. Someday, when I'm a designer, I'll hire models that aren't this thin. This girl has to be at least a 0. Not healthy.

Thoughts?

Car-mel (Not Caramel)

For New years I went down to Carmel with my cousins from NYC. It was really beautiful, and it was so cool to dip your toes in the ocean on December 30th. (hehe, thats Cali weather for you!) When I was getting ready to go to Carmel, I forgot how cool a town it is, and didn't realize it was actually a good shopping town! I found:

These adorable purses that were actually made from old liscense plates and hubcaps. Then they put rhinestones all over them. I think I really would have gotten one if they hadn't been $200. But they were too cute.
My cousins and I also found this adorable store called Nalu, that had all sorts of great clothes, like Rock and Republic, Hudson, Paige, and other jeans.

Here's a picture of my Aunt Jen and I at Nalu. We both actually ended up getting that shirt (lol), and I ended up getting the Hudsons I'm wearing.

Carmel, also has this fabulous Coach store, which is seriously the best Coach store I've ever been in, except maybe the one in NYC. Anyway, it always seems to have more purses and accessories than mine, and different ones too! Like, I found this adorable hat, above, which was so cute. I wouldn't have worn it much, but putting it on made me feel sophisticated. Plus, it was having a sale while I was there. How could I resist?

I &hearts my new purse!
A few cute outfits I wore over the weekend:

And see those jackets, the purple/pink one and the black one? They are really the same jacket! It's my mom's, reversable, and closes magnetically.
All in all, my weekend in Carmel was great.
Hope you all had a great New Years too!

We're Your Dreamgirls

Boys we'll make you happy...

Yesterday I went to see Dreamgirls with my cousins, OMG it was sooo good! The music was fabulous, and even while I was engrossed in the plot, I had to notice the fabulous costumes. A few of my favorites:

And my favorite outfit of all...
